Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma visit High Commission of India in London with team

The High Commission of India in London hosted the Indian Test team on Tuesday with captain Virat Kohli’s wife Anushka Sharma also in attendance at the gathering.

It is however, yet unclear as to how Anushka is still travelling with Kohli and the team as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had barred the wives and girlfriends of the Indian cricket team players from accompanying their respective partners until the end of the third Test against England.

According to reports, the BCCI has also decided that WAGs of India’s cricket stars will join their partners only for 14 days after the first two weeks of a 45-day tour in future.

The star wives including Anushka, Sakshi Dhoni, Ritika Sajdeh (Rohit Sharma’s wife), Ayesha Mukherjee (Shikhar Dhawan’s spouse) and others were also present throughout the limited-overs series between India and England in July.

Anushka’s presence however, seems to be helping Kohli in the Test series as he smashed his maiden hundred in England even though it came in a lost cause in the first Test at Edgbaston last week.

Anushka was seen cheering from the stands as Kohli reached triple figures and kissed his wedding ring to celebrate the occasion.

On Tuesday, the couple posed for a picture together outside the High Commission of India in London along with the Indian team and its support staff. The picture which was later uploaded by the BCCI on its social media accounts.

Kohli smashed 149 and 51 in both innings of the Edgbaston Test but his efforts went in vain as India lost the match by 31 runs.

As a result of his performance, Kohli toppled former Australia captain Steve Smith to clinch the top spot in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen for the first time in his career.

Kohli became the seventh Indian batsman and first since Sachin Tendulkar in June 2011 to be ranked number one in Test cricket. Rahul Dravid, Gautam Gambhir, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag and Dilip Vengsarkar are the other Indian batsmen to have achieved number-one rankings during their careers.

India meanwhile, sit comfortably on top in the team rankings with 125 points despite the Edgbaston loss while England, who have had a poor time at home recently, are fifth with 97 points.

The two teams are now gearing up for the second match which will begin on Thursday at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. England currently lead the five-match Test series 1-0.
