Ukraine Ambassador’s Phone Was Snatches When He Was Taking Selfie

Ukraine ambassador to India, Igor Polikha’s iphone was snatched near Red Fort on Wednesday morning, while he was taking selfies.

Talking on mobile phone or taking selfie in public place are no longer a wise choice in Delhi and other NCR cities – the reason being the possibility of becoming a target of snatchers. One such incident was reported on Wednesday morning near Red Fort, where Ukraine’s ambassador to India, Igor Polikha became the victim.

“I was clicking selfies and photos near Hanuman temple at Red Fort, when two bike-borne persons, snatched my i-phone and fled. They were wearing helmets. Before I could understand anything, they had disappeared,” Polikha said.

The envoy was left helpless after the incident as he went to the area alone, leaving his driver was at some distance. Delhi Police so far have not been able to track the mobile phone and thereby the unidentified accused are absconding.

We have constituted 12 teams and involved the Crime Branch in this matter. We have questioned over 250 suspects and are hopeful that the accused will be nabbed soon,” said Jatin Narwal DCP (north). Sources said cops have some CCTV footage as evidence in the case. However, they do not rule out that the snatchers could have used a stolen bike or might have changed the registration number plate.
The area adjoining to Red Fort, Chandni Chowk and Jama Masjid are known for grey market of mobile phones. Thus such cases of snatching may have organised syndicates involved. As per records, this area is not new to such incidents. Earlier this year, a German student, who came to visit the Red Fort was stabbed and looted by unknown persons. Snatchers has also targeted a Japanese youth near Akshardham temple only a month ago.
