But what if we tell you that there are no established studies to prove that this actually helps in losing weight.

But what if we tell you that there are no established studies to prove that this actually helps in losing weight.

IT INCREASES METABOLISM: This combination of green tea and caffeine is said to enhance fat oxidation, shared Melissa Majumdar, R. D. spokesperson for the academy and a senior bariatric dietitian for Brigham and Women’s Center for Metabolic Bariatric Surgery. This basically means that this increased metabolism helps the amount of calories you burn.

META-ANALYSIS: A meta-analysis done in 2012, which was published in the Cochrane Review, proved that green tea induces a significantly small amount of weight loss in people who are overweight or obese. This weight change is so small that many won’t even notice it.

 CAFFEINE IN GREEN TEA: However, one thing that you must watch out for is your caffeine intake – an ingredient of green tea that not many are aware of. So if you are having a few cups of green tea, remember your consumption of caffeine may go higher than the recommended limit. According to FDA, one must not consume 400 milligrams of caffeine in a day – a regular cup of green tea has 25 milligrams of caffeine.

VERDICT: So if you lead a sedentary or moderately active life, and are expecting your cups of green tea to bring about miraculous weight loss results, think again.
