A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state lawmaker whose son was filmed beating a motorist in Rajasthan’s Banswara says a “mountain” shouldn’t be made out of a “molehill”.
“If there was a scuffle, it was wrong,” Dhan Singh Rawat, the MLA from Banswara, admitted.
But he also said the incident was “a matter related to children”, in comments published by the news agency Asian News International (ANI).
Gulab Chand Kataria, Rajasthan’s home minister, pledged to punish “those who violate the law”, but said an investigation needed to be conducted.
On June 1, Rawat’s son, Raja, slapped a motorist repeatedly, allegedly because the man didn’t allow his vehicle to pass.
ANI published CCTV footage of the incident on Saturday.
