The new and improved version of the Tejas superfast Express will be operated between the busy Chennai and Madurai route. The schedule for the initial launch would be announced soon by the Southern Railways.
Earlier, the 2018 variant of the Tejas Express was earmarked for the Northern Railways but it has now been allotted to the Southern Railways, an official confirmed to news agency PTI.
Like the much-awaited Train 18, the newer variant of Tejas Express coaches has also been built at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai.
“This is the first time that we have manufactured an ultra-modern train for Tamil Nadu,” the ICF official said at the launch of the swanky coaches.
While the first Tejas Express is being operated on the Mumbai-Goa route, the new variant will initially begin on the Chennai-Madurai route.
The new train will come along with 23 chair car and executive class coaches and all of them are fitted with airplane-like LED lights, fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) interior panels, luxurious sets, motor-operated venetian blinds, automatic doors in the passenger area and sliding coach doors.
This is the second premier train to be rolled out from the ICF since last month after the Train 18, billed as the country’s first locomotive-less train.
