Painter crushed to death by lift in Bengaluru

A 45-year-old painter was crushed to death when the lift of the building he was working in came crashing down.

The deceased, identified as Venkatesh, a resident of Srirampura, was carrying out painting work on the ground floor of Rajeshwari Apartments in Malleswaram, Bengaluru when someone allegedly sent the lift down from the fourth floor. Venkatesh failed to notice it and was crushed by the impact of the lift that is located outside the building.

The Hindu quoted a source in Bengaluru police as saying, “When the deceased was at work, he did not notice the lift coming down. He was crushed and succumbed to injuries. It is not known whether someone pressed the lift button or it fell on the deceased due to some technical problem.”

The police have registered a case of causing death by negligence under section 304A of the Indian Penal Code.
