Officials Of A National Law University Accused Of Harassing Students

More than 100 girl students of BA LLB of Ram Manohar Lohiya  National Law University have accused two senior university officials of alleged indecent behaviour.

They have submitted a complaint to the university administration (TOI has a copy of it). While one of the officials has been accused of moral policing, stalking and threatening, more serious allegation of sexual harassment has been levelled against the other.

The complaint was lodged when the first official allegedly harassed a boy and a girl after finding them hugging on the campus on August 30. “It was this incident which prompted us to submit a petition to the chief proctor. The attitude of both the officials is demeaning. Their attitude has instilled insecurity among students, especially girls,” said one of the students who has signed the petition.

The girls have alleged that the second official clicks photographs of students without their consent. “We feel targeted, objectified and sexually harassed at a place that is our second home and are hesitant to approach the officers for fear of safety, even for important issues such as attendance,” reads the complaint.

Terming the allegations as baseless, the first official said, “I have no clue of any such letter against me. As part of my official assignment, I don’t even interact with students.” Refuting the allegations, the second official said: “This is part of a bigger conspiracy against me by teachers who have motivated the students to write such a letter,” he said.
