New Year fervour: Delhi Traffic Police lays ground rules for smooth traffic flow

There will be well-laid arrangements covering the whole of Delhi where such celebrations are expected to be organised. Special arrangements have been made for the areas in the vicinity of Connaught Place, New Delhi.

  • No vehicular traffic shall be allowed in the inner, middle or outer circle of Connaught Place
  • Limited parking space will be available near Connaught Place on first come first serve basis
  • Necessary traffic diversions shall also be done as per requirement

t is that time of the year again when all of a sudden, everyone wants to rush out and party. There is something in the air around the commencement of a new year which makes people high on life, resulting in roads clogging with endless vehicles and people pouring into pubs and restaurants as if it is a free-food day.

Nonetheless, while the celebrations are bound to stretch the city limits, the Delhi Traffic Police has made elaborate traffic arrangements for a smooth flow and regulation of traffic on the eve of New Year.

There will be well laid arrangements covering whole of Delhi where such celebrations are expected to be organised. Special arrangements have been made for the areas in the vicinity of Connaught Place, New Delhi.

From 8 pm onwards on December 31, 2018 in the vicinity of Connaught Place till the conclusion of New Year Celebrations, following restrictions shall be imposed. It will be applicable to all private and public transport vehicles:

No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond

(i) R/A Mandi House

(ii) R/A Bengali Market

(iii) North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover

(iv) Minto Road – Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg crossing

(v) Chelmsford Road near Munje Chowk (New Delhi Railway Station)

(vi) RK Ashram Marg-Chitragupta Marg Crossing

(vii) R/A Gole Market

(viii) R/A GPO, New Delhi

(ix) Patel Chowk

(x) Kasturba Gandhi Road – Ferozshah Road Crossing

(xi) Jai Singh Road-Bangla Sahib Lane

(xii) R/A Windsor place

No vehicular traffic shall be allowed in the inner, middle or outer circle of Connaught Place.

PARKING ARRANGEMENTS (For Connaught Place)

Motorists can park their vehicles at the following places in the vicinity of Connaught Place:

(i) Near Gole Dak Khana on Kali Bari Marg, Pt. Pant Marg, Bhai Veer Singh Marg

(ii) Near Patel Chowk on Rakab Ganj Road behind AIR

(iii) Near Mandi House on Copernicus Marg up to Baroda House

(iv) Near Minto Road on DD Upadhaya Marg and Press Road area

(v) Panchkuian Road on RK Ashram Marg, Chitragupta Road and Basant Road towards Pahar Ganj

(vi) KG Marg near Ferozshah Road or KG Marg to ‘C’ Hexagon

(vii) Near Windsor Place

(a) Rajender Prasad Road

(b) Raisina Road

Limited parking space will be available near Connaught Place on first come first serve basis. Unauthorised parked vehicles shall be towed away and prosecuted.

Access to New Delhi Railway Station (From South)

i) Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street- Mandir Marg- Rani Jhansi Road- R/A Jhandewalan- Desh Bandhu Gupta Road.

ii) R/A GPO- Kali Bari Marg- Mandir Marg- Rani Jhansi Road- R/A Jhandewalan- Desh Bandhu Gupta Road.

iii) R/A Winsor Place- Ferozeshah Road- Mandi House- ‘W’ Point- ‘A’ Point- DDU Marg- BHAV Bhuti Marg.

iv) Entry from Connaught Place – Chelmsford Road shall be prohibited.

v) Motorists can take Second Entry Gate of Ajmeri Gate side. They can reach the station via Pahar Ganj – Shiela Cinema or through Ajmeri Gate – J.L.N. Marg side via B.S.Z. Marg – Delhi Gate – J.L.N. Marg.

Old Delhi Railway Station is not affected.

Traffic arrangements have also been made at the places having high footfall, including Saket, Greater Kailash, Lajpat Nagar, New Friends Colony, Hauz khas, Defence Colony, Vasant Vihar, RK Puram, Nehru Place, Dwarka, Palam Air Port, Rajouri Garden Area, Ashok Vihar Area, Model Town Area, Mayur Vihar Area and other areas.

Necessary traffic diversions shall also be done as per requirement.
