A bridge running over railway tracks in south Mumbai’s Grant Road has developed cracks and has been shut for traffic, the Mumbai Police said today.
The bridge connects Nana Chowk on the west of the railway tracks to Novelty Cinema on the eastern side. The Mumbai Police did say what may have caused the cracks but simply stated that traffic has been diverted to the nearby Kennedy Bridge.
“The bridge at Grant road station has cracked, hence the traffic has been diverted to Nana chowk towards Kennedy bridge,” the Mumbai Police said in a tweet.
The bridge is located on the southern end of the Grant Road station on Western Railway. Images on Twitter, posted since late last night, showed a huge crack running down the centre of the bridge.
The development comes just a day after a portion of a bridge that connects Andheri East to Andheri West in suburban Mumbai collapsed on railway tracks leading to a large-scale disruption in services.
Local train movement between the Goregaon and Bandra stations came to a complete standstill and services were restored only late last night.
