Meghan Markle’s inclusion into the British Royal family turned over a new page in the history of the monarchy.
Since then the Duchess of Sussex has been making her own rules and living her life in her own way quite subtly.
And yesterday too, the Duchess ticked off another ‘first’, as she attended her first solo engagement at the opening of an arts exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Meghan had appeared at the exhibition wearing a stunning black Givenchy dress with a thigh-high slit and fitted bodice.
During the event, there was a simple moment that managed to grab eyeballs.
It was Meghan Markle getting out of her car and closing the door herself.
While such a subtle act of closing a car door by a 37-year-old may not seem like a big deal for us simpletons, but it is for the Royal Family.
Royals always have someone from the members of the staff opening and closing the doors for them, and this act by Meghan goes against the Royal protocols.
People are calling Meghan humble and down-to-earth because of this gesture.
Etiquette expert William Hanson told the Daily Mail, “The Duchess of Sussex closing her own car door is yet another silent signal that she is going to be doing things her own way and helping adapt and progress the British monarchy. Whether she thought long and hard about it before it happened, I doubt it, I suspect it was force of habit, but it is interesting to see that many have noticed as usually dignitaries have a member of staff to do this for them.”
