Jojo goon tax remark: Badals slapped with Rs 10 crore defamation case

Punjab minister Manpreet Singh Badal’s brother-in-law Jaijeet Singh Johal alias Jojo on Friday filed Rs 10 crore defamation case against Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, his wife and Union cabinet minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, former state minister Bikram Singh Majithia and SAD spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema.

Besides a dafamation case, Jaijeet Singh Johal has also filed a criminal case under section 499, 500, 501 and section 34 of the IPC in a Bathinda court.

The Badals had accused Jaijeet Singh Johal of collecting goon tax (Jojo goon tax) from the transporters.

In April, a joint SAD-BJP delegation had submitted a complaint to the National Commission for Scheduled Castes demanding registration of a criminal case against Jaijeet Singh Johal and other leaders for making derogatory remarks against the Dalit community at a dharna in Bathinda.

Addressing a press conference outside the court complex, Jojo said that the leaders used derogatory language against him during political rallies.

In May, Jojo had sent a legal notice to the leaders.

Akali Dal leaders were not available for a comment.
