We are still a good 3 months away from Googles 2018 hardware launch where we expect to see the next pair of Pixel phones.
But rumours around the upcoming Google flagship phones have been doing the rounds for a few weeks. Some leaked images of a Pixel 3 prototype and screen protectors before that have suggested that the XL model will sport a notch while the regular Pixel 3 will come with symmetrical bezels. Now, some CAD renders have appeared of both the phones, giving us our clearest look yet at what they could look like.
The CAD renders provided by @OnLeaks and MySmartPrice give us a good look at the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL from all angles. The images pretty much keep in line with everything we have heard so far in that the Pixel 3 XL will adopt a notched display much like most Android flagships this year, while the Pixel 3 will keep things a little more traditional with a full-screen 18:9 display. This is a strategy similar to what Google employed last year by keeping the Pixel 2 traditional with a 16:9 display while chopping down the bezels on the Pixel 2 XL.
Google is likely to keep the same dual tone colour scheme on the back since it has become a kind of identity for the company now. While its hard to tell from the renders, chances are the entirety of the back will be made up of glass this time around rather than a glass + metal combination. This also suggests a possibility of wireless charging support as well, but its too soon to tell right now.
Notably, the renders also suggest Google will stick to its single rear camera formula in 2018 as well and will not join the trend of dual or triple rear cameras. This isnt surprising considering Google has managed to take on most flagships with dual cameras with a single camera and some terrific AI support. That being said, the front looks interesting as the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL could bring dual selfie cameras as we notice two camera sensors. Theres also the possibility of one of the sensors being used for LED notification light or proximity sensor or perhaps even a sensor for facial recognition. Google will also keep the stereo speakers on both the phones despite the reduced bezels.
As for the specs, the Pixel 3 is rumoured to bring a 5.4-inch 18:9 display while the Pixel 3 XL will get a 6.2-inch display with a taller 19:9 aspect ratio. Both the phones will of course be powered by the Snapdragon 845 chipset, but there is no word yet on the memory and storage configurations we can expect. You can also expect USB Type-C support and Android P out-of-the-box. Well bring more on Googles upcoming flagships in the weeks ahead so do stay tuned for that.
