In a massive diplomatic exercise, the Ministry of External Affairs has invited the entire diplomatic corps in New Delhi to visit Prayagraj to show them the preparations underway for the Kumbh Mela said an official privy to details of the initiative.
The Heads of Missions of all the countries were sent a note verbale on November 16 inviting them to travel to Prayagraj at the invitation of the Ministry of External Affairs.
“The Ministry of External Affairs is organising a day-long visit to Prayagraj on December 15, 2018, for all the Heads of Missions based in New Delhi. HOMs will be taken around the Kumbh Mela venue in Prayagraj to show and explain the massive arrangements that are underway for the Kumbh”, said the note verbale.
“In a special ceremony, the flags will be jointly hoisted by all visiting HOMs during their visit on December 15”, said the note.
The invitation is specifically for the Heads of Missions and Charge de Affaires and cannot be transferred to other officials of the mission. It would be a rare and unique opportunity for the Heads of Missions to see the “marvel” of what goes into the preparations for the “largest gathering and collective act of faith anywhere in the world.
The Kumbh Mela draws tens of millions of pilgrims from all over the world. The congregation includes ascetics, saints, spiritual seekers, pilgrims and tourists from all walks of life.”
India Today TV has learnt that around fifty envoys have already “accepted” the invitation while many others have informed that they would revert with a response soon.
Among the countries that have agreed to participate are Bhutan, Bangladesh, US, Argentina, Turkey, Tunisia, Sri Lanka, Canada, Belgium, Ethiopia, Malaysia, South Africa.
Ahead of the Kumbh Mela and the Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas to be hosted Huntley by MEA and UP government, this is going to be a massive exercise where all the countries’ flags would be on display of those envoys who would travel on December 15.
The Kumbh Mela is being organised in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh from January 15, 2019, to March 31, 2019.
