The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted multiple raids across the city of Kolkata on Thursday. The raids started in the morning and continued till late evening at the residences and offices of Employee’s provident fund officials.
Officials also raided the house of Pay Commissioner Ramesh Chandra Singh in Behala area of Kolkata.
Around 5 groups of ED officials from the Salt Lake office were assigned to conduct raids in different parts of the city including locations in Park Street and Behala.
ED had received tip-offs from various sources stating that EPF officials had been taking bribes and were involved in illegal transactions.
The ED will also be investigating allegations related to money laundering against EPF officials.
The officers of Park Street Police Station and other local police stations too were called in on the spot for more investigation. ED officials believe that more raids will be conducted at various centres if and when required.
