Blaming her for bringing bad name to the family by eloping with her boyfriend twice, a 23-year-old youth took his 15-year-old sister to Haridwar in Uttarakhand on the pretext of a holiday tour and allegedly pushed her from the hills near Chandi Temple.
The girl luckily survived and lodged a police complaint later.
On Tuesday, the Uttarakhand police team reached Ludhiana and arrested the girl’s brother with the help of Ludhiana police. The Uttarakhand police also took the parents into custody to probe their role in the case. ASI Sukhdev Raj, incharge at Millar Gunj police post in Ludhiana, said Uttarakhand police approached them in the case and visited the city.
The ASI said the accused had confessed to his crime. During questioning, the accused told the police that he and his family felt humiliated as his sister had eloped with her boyfriend twice.
The official said the girl’s family belonged to Bihar. Earlier, the girl had eloped with her boyfriend from her native place following which the family had relocated to Ludhiana.
