Thiruparankundram AIADMK MLA AK Boss died after suffering from a cardiac arrest in Madurai earlier today.
Bose, a three-time MLA, was admitted to a private hospital yesterday, and died at around 1 am. The 69-year-old had been unwell for quite some time.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy CM O Panneerselvam expressed their condolences in a statement.
“Mr Bose was loyal to AIADMK and to Jayalalithaa,” said the statement.
The senior leadership of the AIADMK will be heading to Madurai to pay their respects to the senior leader.
With Bose’s death, the AIADMK strength in the assembly has come down to 115.
Incidentally, former Thiruparankundram MLA SM Seenival had also died of a cardiac arrest in May 2016, days after being elected.
Bose was elected months later in November 2016, which turned out to be one of the most controversial nominations for Tamil Nadu. Jayalalithaa’s thumb impression on his nomination came while she was admitted at the Apollo Hospital, and it kicked in a massive controversy.
With Bose’s death, Thiruparamkundram is now set to see its second by-election in two years.
Bose, who started his career as a member of AIADMK youth wing, later worked as the party’s Madurai urbane District Secretary. In 2006, he became an MLA for the first time.
He is survived by wife Bagyalakshmi, two sons and two daughters.
