After Chennai building collapse, plea for CBI enquiry into illegal constructions

Chennai based activist Traffic Ramaswamy has filed a plea before the Madras High Court seeking a Central Bureau Investigation (CBI) probe into alleged illegal constructions on the Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR).

The court has assured him that the hearing into the matter will take place on Tuesday.

In his plea, Ramaswamy has alleged that almost 99 per cent of the constructions in Perungudi is unauthorised and illegal. He alleged that a former MLA from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has been instrumental into letting this happen as he was the then MLA from that constituency.

This comes after an under-construction shed at Kandanchavadi collapsed on Saturday evening (July 21) leading to the death of three labourers. Rajan Chowdhary (19), a native of Bihar, who was undergoing a treatment in the Apollo Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) succumbed to his injuries.
