A 57-year-old school trustee, a French national, was arrested here on Tuesday for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl on the campus earlier this year.
The trustee was remanded in police custody till November 14 on Tuesday.
Deputy commissioner of police (zone X) Navinchandra Reddy, confirmed the arrest but refused to give any details. The arrest comes nearly half a year after the FIR, which also mentions that he sexually assaulted a three-year-old boy. One more suspect, a teacher, is wanted in the case.
Police have also submitted before a Pocso court the report of the polygraph test carried out on the suspect last month. “Apart from the polygraph test report, we have recorded the statements of at least 80 people from the school,” said a police officer.
The case dates back to May 18, when the girl’s parents filed a complaint with police after queries about her changed behaviour led the child to reveal the assault.
Last week, the Bombay high court had pulled up police for not taking action in the case, and asked it to submit a report by this week.
Twice earlier, the Maharashtra State Commission for Protection of Child Rights had taken police to task for a lax probe.
The girl’s parents had approached the commission and the HC alleging police inaction. “The other accused, who was the class teacher, must also be arrested,” said the parents’ lawyer.
The commission has also asked police to submit a report on action taken in the case of the boy, whose parents did not pursue the complaint. School authorities did not respond to calls.
